Half a million Sedibeng Mayoral chain missing!

Way back in 2023 the mayoral chain of Sedibeng District Mayor Lerato Maloka was reported as missing though the matter was allegedly only reported to the police for investigation in 2024

Ironically this was after Maloka had delivered her state of the district address in July, even though the matter was surprisingly never reported to the police at the time. Insiders to the matter claim that the police were only alerted to the missing mayoral chain, worth around R400 000, only in November last year.

This was exactly after five months since the official mayoral chain had been missing.
Head of the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) in Emfuleni, Kingsol Chabalala, said his organization will conduct independent investigations into the missing mayoral chain.
Chabalala said the DA is hoping to get the Premier of the Gauteng Panyaza Lesufi involved in resolving the saga.

He added that MEC of Cogta in the province, Mzi Khumalo Chabalala, should institute deeper investigations into the matter. He alleged that the DA is in possession of an affidavit stating that the missing chain costs a whopping R465 000.Reports regarding the saga reveal that the Vereeniging police showed up at the Sedibeng District mayoral offices probing the matter.

It is apparently here that the police urged Maloka to either hand herself over to the police or accompany them right away. The mayor reportedly responded that she would rather take herself to the police station since the chain is still missing. Meanwhile the Sedibeng mayoral district office communication office had been mum about the incident and no formal statement or report has been issued.
