Parys – On the 26th of August 2024, the Parys Regional Court sentenced Jacky Khoabe to life in prison and another five years for assaulting his 23-year-old girlfriend.
The 28-year-old accused was arrested on charges relating to Gender-based Violence following an incident that happened on the 4th of September 2023. According to SAPS Office of the Provincial Commissioner Free State press release, during the trial it was testified by the victim that on the said day, the traumatizing incident took place at about 23:00 pm, when the victim arrived home in a backroom where they were both staying in with Khoabe.
In her testimony she said that Jacky accused her of sleeping around and he then ordered her to take off her clothes to check if she did not sleep with his brother, which she consented to because she was already assault by the accused whom she further revealed to the court that she already had a protection order against him.
The assault intensely escalated further after Khoabe checked what he was looking for and started raping the victim. She revealed in front of the judge how she screamed for help and the mother of the accused called SAPS and the accused was arrested immediately.
The investigating officer sergeant Chris Fongoqa from Tumahole Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) ensured that evidence he gathered during his investigation lead to Jacky Khoabe sentenced before the end of the women’s month.
