JOHANNESBURG – Randwater biggest supplier Lesotho Highlands Water Project LWHP, which annually transfers almost 700 billion of liters annually to South Africa will be under maintenance for six-month.
According to LWHP spokesperson Mpho Brown, enough water was transferred to South Africa between January 2024 and end of September 2024 “the amount of water that would be normally delivered during that period was increased to mitigate against this down period” he said.
The South African government has assured the residents of Gauteng province that water supply will continue and will not be affected despite six-month maintenance by LWHP
The department of Water and Sanitation spokesperson Mandla Mathebula said that the four dams that are integrated within the Vaal River system will be able to cater supply for the next said period “Our assessment shows it has enough water for the duration of the maintenance period and will maintain water supply for the next six months”.
