The Current AFCON goalkeeper of the tournament, Mzansi number one on form shot-stopper Ronwen Williams who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, has been nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or Yashin trophy, the awards ceremony will take place on the 28th of October 2024.

This comes after his remarkable outstanding, consistent performance and saving six penalties at Africa’s continental showpiece CAF AFCON 2023 Ivory Coast that took place earlier this year where he was named goalkeeper of the tournament and led South Africa to third place and came home with a bronze medal, which saw Bafana Bafana being awarded the Fair Play Team for being the most disciplined team at the tournament.

Williams not only did he make history in Africa but becomes the first African based playing footballer to ever be nominated for the Ballon d’Or awards.

    Ballon d’Or Yashin Trophy Nominees:
Diogo Costa (Portugal), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy), Gregor Kobel (Switzerland), Andriy Lunin (Ukraine), Mike Maignan (France), Giorgi Mamarsdashvili (Georgia), Emiliano Martinez (Argentina), Unai Simon (Spain), Yann Sommer (Switzerland), Ronwen Williams (South Africa).

Ronwen adds to his long list of achievements of winning back-to-back league titles, CAF champion’s league and the African Football league with Mamelodi Sundowns, CAF AFCON bronze medal, Golden Glove and now the Yashin Trophy nomination.
