Earlier reports circulating before the announcement suggested that a long broken relationship between Mokeona and Berg was influential to Rhulani’s demise due to both parties having different perspective, ideology and vision 8n terms of moving the club forward and quality of players they wanted at downs.

On Wednesday 3rd July 2024, the club officially announced parting ways with the coach based on “objectives and expectations of the club, a decision taken by the board” as stated by Sundowns.

It did not take long before Mokoena secured a three year deal with of Africa’s football giants in Morocco Wydad, the Moroccan powerhouse announced Mokoena as their new head coach, a position that has been vacant after the sacking of the previous manager on their official social media accounts with a caption “welcome aboard coach Rhulani Mokoena”.

In a press conference held at Mohammed Benjelloun Complex, Mokoena said “if you work with people who believe in your philosophy and the way you see football, it makes things easier “

Wydad Casablanca finished fifth in the Botola pro league last season, leaving mokoena to pick up the pieces and work his magic to get the club to compete in the 2024-2025 CAF champions league season.
