Gauteng MEC for finance and economic development Lebohang Maile recently met with Emfuleni Local Municipality leadership to discuss a solution and a way forward in getting the financially strained district in good standing and getting their affairs in order.
According to Maile, the meeting was to understand the challenges the municipality faces, which included the structural challenges in order to come up with measures that will better the local municipality, “We met with the Mayor of Emfuleni Municipality as a result of our concerns regarding the municipality’s state of finances and their challenges, several of which are at the detriment of service delivery”.
He further reiterated that “We will have a follow up meeting in a week’s time to pave a way forward. We want the municipality to function optimally, and to deliver services to the residents of Emfuleni. If the municipality does not make drastic changes, we will call on all the two spheres of government to take action”.
