Hugo Broos Bafana Bafana clashed once again with Nigeria’s super eagles on Friday 7th June in Uyo Nigeria in an away leg of the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers at 21:00 pm South African time. The two most football rivals in the African continent met for the second time in 2024 after Nigeria claimed the throne between the nations in the CAF AFCON tournament held in Ivory Coast January 2024 beating Broos Afcon super squad in the semi-finals penalty shootout to advance to the prestigious continental final where they lost to the host Ivory Coast to become Africa’s Champions.
Hugo’s man rampage to vengeance to the defeat they suffered against the super eagles in the Afcon 2023 held in 2024 earlier this year as they continue with SAFA mandate to become group C leaders and top the table in order to qualify for the world cup 2026 ended up with each side sharing a point in a 1-1 draw. South Africa is currently 4th in Group C with 4 points collected from trashing Benin 2-1 late November 2023 before Losing 2-0 to current log leaders Lesotho who are 5 points after three games.
Nigeria has only collected three points so far from three draws, and going into the match with superiority and confidence after the last encounter between the two nations yielded no results. Broos announced his 23 man squad on the 30th May for the world cup qualifiers back to back clashes against Nigeria and Zimbabwe. There are few changes to the squad with the inclusion of Lyle Foster from Burnley, sensational wonder kid Relebohile Mofokeng from Orlando Pirates.
The Final Hugo Broos 23 man selection include:
